Introduction

The Interop Wiki Project purpose is to gather information related to Microsoft positions and efforts regarding open standards in Europe and worldwide.

We want to :

» bring together developers interested in finding information on accessing and using documentation on some specifications and protocols by Microsoft.

» collect cases where developers and/or companies had issues meeting public tenders requirements in Europe because proprietary Microsoft technologies were mandated.

» understand better the current challenges regarding open standards from European policies perspective.

Because interoperability is the key to digital innovation, a strong communication is needed for a competitive Europe.

General help :

Inserting a link - Hi there. We have noticed that bugs in the platform often appear from typing long links. That's not a big problem as we can fix it here manually but if you could think about skipping a line (ie. leaving one entire line empty) between your text and the link this would help. Thank you ! Your humble servant. (…) by interop wiki projectinterop wiki project - 02 Mar 2012 14:03 - 1

Microsoft fighting AIDS - This is quite curious news, and not really relevant to MS published documentation - btw maybe should we add a section on this website for miscellaneous info, how about that ? More news from Windows 8: Zune and Live scrapped off new "MS ID"? - Well that is going to confuse a lot of people, people using Windows and developers as well. Not every detail is known, but the Zune and Live brands will be going away for the Windows 8; they'll be replaced by the Windows Communication Apps (hey, I thought Windows Communication was something related to WCF, a set of Windows and Sharepoint APIs?) while the Live ID will be renamed or redeveloped as "Microsoft ID" Not the right time to change all your brands, Stevie… (…) by interophackerinterophacker - 25 Feb 2012 22:23 - 3

What's Microsoft'strategy on Open Source? - This is an interesting interview of one Microsoft manager in charge of OSS community that has been translated into English by Fabrice Mous. (Download the PDF on this page)
I personally think it's all very politically correct, because meanwhile Microsoft continues to push its policies against Open Source and threatens companies with software patents… (…) by interophackerinterophacker - 02 Mar 2012 13:58 - 3

Public Procurement forum :

French Defense IT system under US company control - It could be the scenario for next movie production on the dark lobbies of the power at the age of information society. Well, no, this is simply a case study among many, many others on the actual situation : Redmond's intrusion at all levels of our existence including the most sensitive ones – when it comes to our national security for example. MSFT pressures UK gov on Open Standards and public procurement - Some things never change. The UK Gov had released a whitepaper on open standards, IT public procurement, making a good case for open source software and open standards: That didn't last long, Microsoft put them squarely back to where it thought the UK might allow and encourage: (…) by interophackerinterophacker - 27 Feb 2012 15:04 - 3

Standardization forum :

Preparatory Design Material - I don't know if this is the right place to post my question but as Interoperability might be a related issue, here it is : browsing through European existing legislation on software protection, I found the expression "preparatory design material" as supposed to be included under the definition of computer program. Would anybody have an idea about what this reffers to ? (…) by sacha 2012sacha 2012 - 04 Mar 2012 14:47 - 4

Leap year issues everyhwhere around MSFT software? - With the news of the Windows Azure crash and subsequent downtime I am wondering if this is the same kind of issue we had already faced with OOXML.
