Visual Studio 11 details on MSDN

Visual Studio tends to be a piece of rather serious software. It's not everybody's choice, but it deserves a review. This one comes from MSDN and I'll be on the lookout for more review as the new version is about to be released:

What are the open source competing products ?

Well, for MSFT languages there are a few (Windsoft, Borland) but there are no real heavyweight. There are many, many open source IDEs our there, but the ones that may be compared are the one that meet two criteria imho:

• a really large user base
• the ability to integrate and work with several languages ( java python C++)

So in this line of thinking I would say that Eclipse, Netbeans and Komodo are real competitors. Also, do not forget that Visual Studio is not multi platform; it does not run on OS X and Linux…
